Javed Jafferji

Javed Jafferji is a professional photographer. He studied photography , filming and television in the UK. Since returning to Tanzania he has been involved with various books, about his native Zanzibar, including “Historical Zanzibar - Romance of the Ages”; “Images of Zanzibar”; “Zanzibar Stone Town – An Architectural Exploration”; “Zanzibar – an Essential Guide”; “Tanzania – African Eden”; “Zanzibar Style”; “A Taste of Zanzibar”; “Safari Living”; “Safari living recipes ”; ”Zanzibar Style recipes” .
His work has been published in national and international newspapers and magazines such as “The Times”, “Newsweek”, “Guardian”, “Sunday Times”, “Independent”, “Geo”, and other publications. He has held exhibitions in London, Paris, Berlin and Pakistan, as well as Tanzania.
Javet publishes a magazine called “The Swahili Coast” which promotes coastal eco-tourism in Zanzibar and Pemba, he manages “The Swahili Coast Publishers”, a specialist photography and graphic design company, and runs a tourist shop “The Gallery Zanzibar” which encompasses an art gallery, gifts and souvenirs, antiques and books. The Gallery is at Mercury House, the former home of the singer Freddy Mercury, in Shangani, the heart of old Stone Town.
